We had the pleasure of providing support for the Arawa-based Panguna Fode Centre’s major end of semester event in late June. Fode is committed to providing flexible, open distance education for young Bougainvilleans and has a current enrolment of 514 students.
This year’s gala event included drama and dance performances, debating competitions and a Mr and Miss Pageant where students got to strut the catwalk in a range of slick formal and casual wear. Organiser Rebeccah Mark explained how the event provided students from Year 9 to 12 with the opportunity to openly express themselves, show their talents and build self-confidence as emerging adults.
BCL is a long-time supporter of education in Bougainville and was delighted to assist with student awards and catering. The students put on quite a show and all should be extremely proud of the effort that went into the three-day event. The many happy faces proved its success!
