BCL COMMENCES REMOVAL OF IDENTIFIED IMMINENT SEVERE RISKS(ISR) MASONRY WALLS

Bougainville Copper Limited (BCL) confirms the successful demolition and removal
of three unsafe masonry walls that were identified as imminent severe risks through
the Panguna Mine Legacy Impact Assessment (PMLIA) process.
These structures were assessed as posing a threat to public safety, and their
removal represents an important step in reducing high-risk legacy hazards within the
former Panguna mine area.

Commitment to Addressing Legacy Impacts
BCL, the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG), and Rio Tinto have
acknowledged the findings of the PMLIA and remain committed to addressing legacy
impacts in a responsible, transparent, and collaborative manner. The removal of
these walls forms part of BCL’s broader commitment to oversee remedial works
associated with the most urgent risks identified through the PMLIA.
In 2025, the parties established a roundtable forum as a platform for coordination
and engagement with Bougainvillean community leaders. Its immediate role is
addressing high to very high risks from the PMLIA report. The demolition of the walls
demonstrates early action and progress in addressing identified hazards.

Ongoing Planned Works to Address Remaining ISRs
BCL advises that further planned works are also underway to address remaining
sites identified during PMLIA fieldwork including the removal of hazardous chemicals
from Loloho Port, addressing flooding at Kuneka Creek, and the demolition of other
unsafe structures in the mine area. These activities are being progressively
advanced, with safety and stakeholder engagement guiding all works.

Looking Ahead
BCL recognises the importance of addressing historical impacts as part of the
broader pathway toward responsible management of the Panguna mine legacy. The
company remains committed to working through established processes to ensure
that risks are managed appropriately with public safety prioritised. BCL will continue
to provide updates in coordination with the ABG, landowners and their broader
communities
