Bougainville Live Community Latest News

Bougainville Copper Limited is proud to continue providing local support for a range of worthwhile community activities in Arawa and Panguna.

This week for example, the company is pleased to be assisting the Arawa District Hospital in meeting some of its costs for the hospital’s official opening.

Recently, BCL also assisted transport providers in supporting Bougainville Day events, hosted by the Central Events Committee in Arawa. It also assisted youths from Panguna, North Nasioi and Eivo-Torau with the hiring of musical instruments to practice for live performances during the Bougainville Day celebrations.

Bougainville Copper also partnered with families of Hampton Junior Soccer Club in Melbourne, Australia to distribute soccer balls to elementary schools in the Panguna District of Bougainville.

Families associated with the Hampton soccer club kindly purchased 40 balls from PARK Social Soccer Co in a fundraising event that saw each ball purchased matched with a donated ball to allow 80 soccer balls to be distributed in total.

The families were keen to send the balls to PNG but had no way of distributing among local schools and clubs and that is when BCL stepped in to assist with the local distribution.

BCL Chairman Mel Togolo said the company had a proud tradition of providing community support in Bougainville and it was keen for this to continue.

“We are a company that is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of Bougainvilleans. In things like health, education, sport or other important community and cultural events we are very pleased to be able to lend a hand,” he said.

PARK Social Soccer Co is a socially conscious company focused on helping disadvantaged kids enjoy the game. Partnering with local charities, PARK gets soccer balls onto the feet of disadvantaged children through its Pass-A-Ball Project.

PARK Soccer was founded in 2015 and has now provided more than 4,500 soccer balls to children in 11 countries with children in the Panguna districts the latest beneficiaries.
